I'm a HM provider in the Sedona AZ area with a story to share. I contract with a local Addictions Recovery Program, using HM in individual coaching sessions with the clients who are in residence.
I recently worked with a 35 year-old man in treatment for cocaine and alcohol addiction. In his 2nd HM session he was doing great "in the green" for about 10 minutes when he suddenly went into the blue and then red. After about 1 min. in the red, he returned to green for another 5 minutes and then suddenly repeated the return to blue and red for about another minute before returning to green for the remainder of the 20 minute session.
At the end of the session, I quizzed him about the two "red episodes" and here is his response:
"I was feeling so confident in my recovery and being able to stay in the green, that I decided to try something. I began to imagine myself walking into my old tavern in Florida with a friend to have a beer. As soon as I got the idea, there was a shift into blue on the computer. When I started to drink the beer, the program went into the red and stayed there until I was able to shift my thinking and imagine myself leaving the beer and the tavern....the computer returned to green. I was so amazed that I tried it again a few minutes later and the same thing happened. This program REALLY WORKS."
I have been sharing this story because it so clearly demonstrates the power of imagery to affect the heart rhythms...just like we teach!
